Delhi, Beijing should oppose tariff war, says China envoy Xu Feihong

NEW DELHI: India and China should not allow the boundary question that was left over from the past to define current ties, nor let specific differences affect comprehensive bilateral cooperation, said Chinese ambassador Xu Feihong.Speaking on the anniversary of the founding of People’s Republic of China, Xu said both countries should firmly oppose “hegemony, power politics, and any form of tariff and trade wars, jointly defend the common interests of the Global South, and build a community with a shared future for humanity”. “Bridging differences through dialogue has always been the important key to advancing China-India relations,” said Xu. India was represented by MEA secretary Arup Chatterjee at the event. “We are ready to advance friendly exchanges at all levels,” said Xu. “As two major ancient civilisations and large developing countries, the ties have transcended bilateral scope and bears global and strategic significance.”
