‘Confusion and conflict in Mahagathbandhan’: Bihar deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary slams oppn bloc; JMM quits alliance

'Confusion and conflict in Mahagathbandhan': Bihar deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary slams oppn bloc; JMM quits alliance

Bihar deputy chief minister and BJP leader Samrat Chaudhary on Saturday hit out at the Mahagathbandhan, saying the alliance is plagued by confusion and internal conflict.Chaudhary said that candidates within the alliance are fighting among themselves and that no proper seat-sharing arrangement has been made.”In Mahagathbandhan there is confusion and internal conflict as candidates from within the alliance are fighting against each other… Strangely, there’s no proper strategy for seat-sharing,” he told reporters.Meanwhile, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) announced that it will contest the Bihar elections independently, stepping away from the Mahagathbandhan. The move came after the opposition alliance, which includes RJD and Congress, failed to finalize a seat-sharing pact for the first phase of the Bihar polls. The nomination process closed on Friday, with some partners engaged in what they described as a “friendly fight” in a few constituencies.JMM general secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya said the party will contest six seats on its own.In Ranchi, Bhattacharya said, “Dhamdaha, Chakai, Katoria, Manihari, Jamui and Pirpainti – we will contest these. The situation everywhere is different. Why is Congress contesting against RJD? Why is CPI contesting against VIP? Election strategies change.” Earlier, Union minister Giriraj Singh asserted that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is set for a major victory in the Bihar Assembly elections. Taking a dig at the opposition, he said the Mahagathbandhan is in disarray — “dil ke tukde hazaar huye, koi yahan gire, koi wahan gire.”Singh further claimed that there is no real Mahagathbandhan in Bihar, adding that the public has lost trust in RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.”In 2010, JD(U) and BJP made a record together when they won 206 seats. This time, we will go higher than that. We have ‘neta’ (leader), ‘netritva’ (leadership) and program. There is no such thing as ‘mahagathbandhan’, there is no trust in Tejashwi Yadav. They are not ready to consider each other leaders. They neither have ‘neta’ nor ‘netritva’,” Singh told ANI.Polling for the Bihar elections will take place on November 6 and 11, with results to be declared on November 14.
