Automatic permits for metros to run feeder buses

.

NEW DELHI: Metro rail entities across the country will soon get automatic permits to operate feeder buses connecting metro stations, a move that will address the issue of first- and last-mile connectivity for passengers using the mass public transportation system, reports Dipak Dash. Speaking at a conclave organised by housing and urban affairs ministry, road transport secretary V Umashankar said govt will introduce a provision in Motor Vehicles Act for this purpose. “We will provide an automatic permit for first and last mile transportation to metro administrations. Metro administrations can provide ticketing and transport service by picking up a person from their houses, getting them onto the metro system, moving them through it and then dropping them off from the last station to their destination. This can be done through single ticketing.”
