NEW DELHI: Ministry of external affairs on Wednesday summoned Bangladesh high commissioner M Riaz Hamidullah, as per news agency ANI.This comes after Indian High Commission in Dhaka received a threat, according to ANI.

The move amid heightened tensions after National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Hasnat Abdullah delivered a speech with anti-India rhetoric, warning of isolating the Seven Sisters and offering refuge to Northeast separatists if Bangladesh is destabilised. On Monday, Abdullah, a prominent figure in the student-led protests that toppled Bangladesh’s Sheikh Hasina government in August last year, said India’s northeastern states were geographically “vulnerable” because they rely on the narrow Siliguri Corridor, or “Chicken’s Neck”, for access to the rest of the country.Hasina has been living in Delhi since fleeing Dhaka, and bilateral ties have sunk to their lowest point since her removal. Last month, an International Crimes Tribunal convicted her of “crimes against humanity” linked to the protests and sentenced her to death, a verdict she has rejected as “politically motivated.”This is a developing story.
