NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay on Monday responded to discussions surrounding his recent choice of attire, saying the black-and-white suit he has been wearing symbolises transparency and simplicity.Addressing a rally in Tiruchirappalli, Vijay said questions had been raised about his decision to wear a suit, adding that such attire was not reserved for people holding positions of authority.“Many people have been talking about the new suit that I have been wearing recently. Are we not allowed to wear a coat and suit? Is it meant only for people in positions of authority? There is nothing like that,” he said.Explaining the significance of the colours, Vijay said he had deliberately chosen black and white to reflect his approach to public life.“I am not wearing many colours. It is just black and white, like all our hearts. The choice of these colours is to show that I will remain transparent and simple in everything, just like black and white,” he said. The chief minister also referred to the symbolism associated with the black colour but said it did not require further explanation.“As for what the black colour signifies and whom it represents, I do not think I need to explain it, as everyone already knows,” he said. Vijay said he preferred to focus on his work rather than engage in prolonged public commentary. “I am not someone who gives lengthy explanations or speaks unnecessarily. As people know, I usually speak for less than 20 minutes at most meetings,” he said.He added that people had advised him to concentrate on governance and public service rather than respond to criticism. The Tamil Nadu CM said people often tell him, “You have come here to work for us, so focus only on that work. We will take care of those who keep talking about you.”Vijay visited Tiruchirappalli to thank voters of the Tiruchirappalli East Assembly constituency, from where he had won before subsequently resigning the seat.
