‘You are Saif’s son, Kareena’s in your family’: Ibrahim on self-doubt

'You are Saif Ali Khan's son, Bebo's (Kareena Kapoor Khan) is in your family': Ibrahim Ali Khan opens up on moments of self-doubt, comparisons with his father

Ibrahim Ali Khan made his debut this year with ‘Nadaaniyan’ which released on OTT. People were highly anticipating his debut but the film was brutally trolled after the release and so were Ibrahim and Khushi Kapoor for their acting. In a recent interview, Ibrahim has opened up on the criticism, constant comparisons with his father Saif Ali Khan, and what he says to himself while feeling insecure. After ‘Nadaaniyan’, Ibrahim was seen in ‘Sarzameen’ with Kajol and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film was directed by Boman Irani’s son Kayoze Irani. Talking about comparisons with his father, Ibrahim said during a chat with Esquire India, “For years, I’ve been told I look just like my father. ‘Oh my god, you’re just like him, you’re just like him, you’re just like him. Oh my god, you’re just like Saif.’ When you’re constantly fed something like that, that becomes a standard for you. You want to be more and more like him.”Being a son of actors Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, Ibrahim’s grandmother Sharmila Tagore is one of the best actresses that Indian cinema ever saw. She’s considered a legend. Not to mention, now Ibrahim also has Kareena Kapoor Khan as a family member. Ibrahim was 11 years old when his father Saif married Kareena. Ibrahim says that having such a family keeps him grounded. “I usually always have self-doubt. Whenever I feel unsure, all this (lineage) is a reminder of who’s at home. ‘You’re Saif Ali Khan’s kid. Bebo’s (stepmom Kareena Kapoor) in your family. You should be able to do it. You should be smashing it, man,'” he said. Ibrahim also opens up on his much hyped debut which failed. “Not too long ago, they were all waiting for my launch, and after Nadaaniyan, the hype has dropped real bad. They’ve trolled me nonstop. ‘He won’t be able to do it only’. It’s a massive low… and I constantly feel bad about it. I’m just gonna go on record and say that it was a really bad film,” he confessed. He will be seen next in ‘Diler’ directed by Kunal Deshmukh. It’s a sports drama which stars Sreeleela.
