Amy Pascal opens up about Jean Grey’s entry in the ‘Spider-Man’ universe

While talking about the latest ‘Spider-Man’ film, producer Amy Pascal opened up about Jean Grey, one of the most talked-about characters in the film. While talking to Deadline about the film, she weighed in on the decision to make Sadie Sink’s character a main part of the new movie. She revealed that Grey was not included in ‘Brand New Day’ because she was part of the X-Men; she was included because of director Destin Daniel Cretton. She shared, “We didn’t pick Jean Grey because she was part of the X-Men; we picked Jean Grey because [director] Destin [Daniel Cretton] came in and said, ‘If you guys want to do a movie that is about the way people feel isolated, even more today than ever, because of our technology and everything else, and not just young people, but everybody. But it has afflicted young people so much. If we can do a movie that is about how reaching out and making a connection to someone is the most important thing that you can do, then I understand how to do this movie.’”Pascal further explained that Cretton suggested the main villain in the film be a teenager, in comparison to all the adults and monsters they have incorporated in the past. Pascal added, “Because the other truth about Peter Parker is that the best stories are when the villains have the same problem that he does: anonymity and feeling isolated. It just seemed like the right story to tell for today, because it’s something that we can all relate to.”

Amy Pascal opens up about what she learned from helming the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise

During the interview, she also weighed in on how the filmmaking process was for her and what she learned from ‘Brand New Day’. She shared, “The key is for all of us who work on these movies together is to really focus on telling a story about Peter Parker, not telling a story about the end of the world or things that none of us can really relate to.” She added that Peter Parker’s story is far more relatable, which they wanted to achieve with all of their films. “The wonderful thing about Peter is he’s just a kid with no money and no girlfriend, and no game. That’s what makes him such a heroic character and such a mythic character for people, because all he is is a good guy,” she added.‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has officially crossed the USD 1 billion mark in its opening week, becoming the second fastest film to achieve the feat. It stands close behind ‘Avengers: Endgame’, which earned around USD 1.2 billion at the time of its release. Go to Source
