Siddharth Gupta has become a talking point after the release of ‘Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart (Hridayam),’ in which he plays Lord Krishna. The film opened in theaters on May 7, 2026, and early reactions have drawn attention to Gupta’s screen presence, expressions and emotional depth. The makers chose a relatively fresh face for a role that has always been closely watched in Indian cinema, and that decision has now placed Gupta’s journey under the spotlight.

Siddharth Gupta’s journey before ‘Krishnavataram’

According to India Today, Gupta was born on November 4, 1993, in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. He later moved to Dubai to study engineering but left that path to come to Mumbai and pursue acting. In Mumbai, he joined acting classes and worked in theater before landing his first major film opportunity. His break came during a stage performance, where Ekta Kapoor spotted him and offered him an audition for ‘Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi’. After “around a dozen auditions,” Gupta was cast in the lead role. He is also the brother of television producer and personality Vikas Gupta, though his acting career has moved through its own set of projects. After ‘Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi,’ Gupta appeared in ALTBalaji’s ‘Ragini MMS: Returns’ in 2017, where he played Rahul. In 2019, he featured in Dhwani Bhanushali’s music video ‘Vaaste,’ which became widely popular online. During the promotions of ‘Krishnavataram,’ several viewers connected him to that video.

Gupta also shared a long note while standing in front of a ‘Krishnavataram’ hoarding in Mumbai. In it, he wrote about heartbreak, struggles and the years he spent waiting for the right opportunity. Directed by Hardik Gajjar, ‘Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart (Hridayam)’ is the first chapter of a planned trilogy based on Lord Krishna’s life. The story follows Krishna from Dwarka to Kurukshetra after his separation from Radha. It also explores his relationships with Rukmini and Satyabhama. The film is based on the Brahma Vaivarta Purana. It also stars Sushmitha Bhat as Radha, Nivaashiyni Krishnan as Rukmini and Sanskruti Jayana as Satyabhama. With the film now in cinemas, Gupta’s shift from engineering student to mythological lead has become a key part of its conversation.
