Priya Sachdev is in the headlines for her battle to secure her late husband Sunjay Kapur’s massive Rs 30,000 crore fortune in the court. However, before getting married to the late businessman, she was hitched to Vikram Chatwal, an actor and businessman. He once featured in a popular film that was released in 2007.

Who is Vikram Chatwal

According to Bollywoodshaadi.com, Vikram Chatwal is a hotelier from America, of Indian descent. He was born in Ethiopia, on November 1, 1971. Later in the 1970s, he shifted to Canada, and then in the 1980s, he moved to New York.Reportedly, his father, Sant Chatwal, invested in fine dining hotels, and later, their chain of restaurants became the major source of their massive empire. Vikram took over the reins of his family business in 1999. Before doing that, he tried his hand at modeling, film production, and even acting.

His accolades

He became the first Sikh model to feature in a famous American magazine. After taking over the family business, his success earned him the title of most eligible bachelor by BBC’s Radar.

Featured in a Bollywood movie

Vikram played the role of a gay husband to Sandhya Mridul’s character Madhu in the film titled ‘Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.’. The multi-starrer was directed by acclaimed filmmaker Reema Kagti and was released in theatres on February 23, 2007.

Controversies and personal struggles

Reportedly, Vikram got arrested at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport for possessing an illegal substance while boarding a plane. However, the charges were later dropped.In 2014, his father was forced to resign as CEO from the company that ran the chain of hotels. This was following Sant Chatwal’s arrest by the FBI. He pleaded guilty to the charges leveled against him.He was arrested again in 2016 for burning two dogs with an aerosol can and a lighter. Again, he pleaded guilty.

Vikram Chatwal and Priya Sachdev’s marriage

Vikram Chatwal got married to Priya Sachdev on February 18, 2006, in a grand wedding. Reportedly, it was attended by over 600 guests from 26 countries. The wedding festivities went on for over 10 days. International celebs like Naomi Campbell, Patricia Velasquez, rapper P Diddy, Prince Nikolaos of Greece, Bill Clinton, and several Indian celebrities attended the wedding.

The couple then welcomed a baby and lovingly named her Safira Chatwal.

However, their marriage didn’t last long, as they got divorced in 2011. As per the report, Vikram’s substance abuse became the major reason for the split.

Vikram Chatwal’s reputation

According to the report, Vikram didn’t marry after divorcing Priya Sachdev. However, his name was involved with big names from the entertainment industry, including Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan. At one point, he was also linked to Kim Kardashian. However, none of these relationships were confirmed. Reportedly, he found love again with model Angela Lindvall.
