Vijay’s son Jason Sanjay says father encouraged to build his own identity

Vijay's son Jason Sanjay says father encouraged him to build his own identity, addresses family rumours: 'People make assumptions about us'

Vijay’s son Jason Sanjay says father encouraged him to build his own identity, addresses family rumours: ‘People make assumptions about us’

Jason Sanjay, son of actor-turned-politician and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, has opened up about his father’s historic election victory, his directorial debut, and the constant public scrutiny surrounding their family.Jason, who recently made his directorial debut with Sigma, spoke candidly about the responsibility that comes with being part of Vijay’s family. His comments come amid speculation about the family’s personal life, including rumours of a rift between Vijay and his wife, Sangeetha, and reports suggesting Jason had adopted his mother’s surname.

‘We have an additional responsibility and legacy’

Reflecting on Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) securing a historic victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Jason said the achievement had brought added responsibility for the entire family.”It is a historic revolution that has taken place. Because of this, whether it is me, my sister or my entire family, we have all received an additional responsibility and legacy to carry forward. We also need to safeguard it. We will have to be extremely careful and cautious,” Jason said while speaking to Behindwoods TV.

‘He wanted me to build my own identity’

Despite being the son of one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars, Jason said Vijay never wanted to hand him success. Speaking about his career, the young filmmaker revealed that his father encouraged him to carve out his own path instead of relying on his family name.”He wanted me to build my own identity and name. What worked best for both of us was that we were thinking along the same lines. We were on the same page. As a father, he helped me. But when it came to my career, he motivated me to learn things on my own and gain ground-level experience. He never spoon-fed me. I am really thankful to him, my mom and my entire family,” he said.

‘People make assumptions about us’

Without directly referring to the rumours surrounding his family, Jason acknowledged that public attention often leads to speculation and assumptions.”Sometimes, there are positive narratives and other times, not-so-positive ones. I often go through these posts and comments. I have been looking at how things are being received, whether it is in terms of my film or my family in general. Looking at the various comments, I think every comment serves a different purpose. Some people want to encourage me, while others start criticising our personalities and family. They make assumptions about us. There is a lot of love, legacy and responsibility because of my family,” he said. Jason’s remarks come after months of intense speculation surrounding Vijay’s personal life. While rumours about his marriage to Sangeetha have continued to circulate on social media, neither Vijay nor his family has publicly addressed or confirmed those claims.Vijay and Sangeetha have two children – son Jason Sanjay and daughter Divya Saasha.
