When SRK requested to not ban his revenue

When Shah Rukh Khan requested to not ban his revenue

Shah Rukh Khan, recently awarded for Jawan, is gaining traction for a 2006 clip where he questioned government policy on harmful products. He argued that if items like cold drinks are deemed bad, authorities should ban their production entirely, rather than allowing them for revenue and then criticizing actors for endorsements. Khan asserted that actors are simply performing their job.

Shah Rukh Khan recently won the Best Actor National Award for his performance in the film Jawan where he spoke about many ills of the country. In a clip that is now going viral on the internet, he spoke about how actors are often pulled for endorsing certain products despite the government allowing their production. Back in 2006, Shah Rukh Khan in his conversation with CNN- IBN on being asked about the logic behind stars endorsing cold drinks which are considered harmful to children, said , “I would appeal to any authority like that. Ban it. Don’t let it sell in our country. If you think it’s bad for children, ban it. Smoking is bad – don’t let production of cigarettes go on in this country. If you think cold drinks are bad, do not let them. If it’s poisoning our people, do not let it be made in India. See, my logic is, you are not stopping it because it gives you a revenue. Let’s be honest about it. You’re not stopping certain products if you think they’re harmful, but they’re revenue to the government. Don’t stop my revenue. I’m an actor. I’m supposed to do a job and get revenue from it. And very clearly, I mean, if you think something is wrong, stop it. There’s no problem.” Shah Rukh Khan will be next seen in Siddharth Anand’s King where he will be sharing screen space with his daughter Suhana Khan for the first time. There are several other big names attached to the film like Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Arshad Warsi, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Jaideep Ahlawat , Raghav Juyal and Abhay Verma.Shooting of the film is currently going on in Poland, the shoot has also been a bit delayed as he met with an accident few months ago for which he had to travel to the United States of America for a surgery.
