When Sanjay Kapoor admitted dating Tabu

When Sanjay Kapoor admitted dating Tabu: Says it was during 'Prem' shoot; 'By the end we weren’t talking'

Sanjay Kapoor made his big Bollywood debut with ‘Prem’ in 1995, opposite Tabu. The film didn’t do well at the box office, but what many don’t know is that Sanjay and Tabu briefly dated during its shoot. In a throwback interview with us, Sanjay revealed that their romance ended even before the movie hit theaters. The dating rumors were doing the rounds during the shooting period, but the actor threw some light on it.

The oldest newcomer to the industry

Recalling those days, Sanjay admitted, “I was dating Tabu at that time initially, but by the end of the movie, we were not talking to each other. The film was released when I was already 31, and I used to joke that I was the oldest newcomer in the industry. But that’s how destiny works. ‘Prem’ didn’t click, but within a month, ‘Raja’ was released with Madhuri Dixit, and that turned into a blockbuster.”

6 long years of making ‘Prem’

His debut movie, ‘Prem,’ took really long to hit the theaters. Talking about the same, Sanjay explained that Shekhar Kapur was originally supposed to direct the film, but he never really started it. “Shekhar is a brilliant filmmaker but very lazy, which is why he’s made so few movies in 30 years,” Sanjay said. The project eventually went to Satish Kaushik, who began work in 1989. However, he got busy with ‘Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja’—another big project at the time—which delayed ‘Prem’ even further. After nearly six years in the making, Prem was finally released in 1995.

Sanjay Kapoor’s work front

On the work front, he was last seen in the latest movie, ‘Param Sundari,’ alongside Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor. He played Sidharth’s father in the movie. The film opened impressively at the box office with over ₹26 crore in its first weekend; although its business level fell in Week 2, the film maintained its business performance due to its originality. The film follows Param (Sidharth Malhotra), an affluent entrepreneur from Delhi, as he invests in an AI-powered matchmaking company. In doing so, he meets Sundari (Janhvi Kapoor) from Kerala, who lives and operates a family guesthouse with her uncle, who specializes in Kalaripayattu. What was supposed to be a digital experiment quickly progressed to an emotional and unexpected journey. Go to Source
