When Rishi got life-changing advice from Raj Kapoor

'Bobby': When Rishi Kapoor got life-changing advice from his dad Raj Kapoor; Was scolded during the shoot of Main Shayar To Nahi'

There are so many stories behind the curtain of the silver screen; what we see is the refined and best outcome of the hard work the actors do to keep us entertained. What happens during the shoot rarely comes out to the audience, and one such anecdote shared by the late actor Rishi Kapoor is about life-changing advice he got from his father, Raj Kapoor. During a film promotion, the late classic romantic hero of the 70s and 80s shared how he got scolded by his father on the sets of ‘Bobby’ when he was shooting for the first song of his career.Directed by the legendary actor Raj Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor’s debut film, ‘Bobby,’ alongside Dimple Kapadia, made waves in the film industry. While we all enjoyed the movie, there are stories of the struggles faced by the actors to make our watch worthwhile. Since Rishi Kapoor was shooting for the first song of his career, the actor wanted a choreographer to guide him in performing the song. To this, Raj Kapoor scolded him in front of everyone for his demand.

The ‘Main Shayar To Nahi’ song was a great hit, and this only happened because of the life-changing advice Rishi Kapoor got from his legendary father. Raj Kapoor told Rishi that the choreographer you are demanding would have directed other heroes as well; he must have choreographed Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, and other leading actors of that time. “What will be your specialty then? What difference will you make for the audience as a hero? There would have been no new element, and it would have looked like you have copied them,” Rishi shared. Raj Kapoor further instructed him to take the stage and start performing on his own.’Main Shayar To Nahin’ is still one of the biggest hit songs of the movie. It was sung by Shailendra Singh, and the music was given by the legendary musical duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal to the lyrics penned by Anand Bakshi. The song featured Dimple Kapadia and Rishi Kapoor. Since there was no choreographer assigned, Rishi Kapoor performed in his style. This was disclosed by the actor in his autobiography titled ‘Khullam Khulla’.
