When Prabhas said he doesn’t want to break out of his ‘Baahubali’ image

Birthday special: When Prabhas said that he doesn't want to break out of his 'Baahubali' image

Actor Prabhas is celebrating his birthday today. On this special day, let’s take a look at when the actor shared his thoughts on the iconic ‘Baahubali’ franchise in a throwback interview in 2017.Speaking about the massive success of the franchise, he told IANS, “I don’t want to break out of the image. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I got and I want to keep it all my life.”Prabhas attained pan-India fame as Amarendra Baahubali and Mahendra Baahubali, with the films earning over Rs 1,000 crore worldwide. The story of ‘Baahubali’ revolves around a battle for the ownership of an ancient kingdom between two brothers, blending drama, emotion, dance, and music across two parts. Prabhas expressed his amazement at the journey, adding, “Sometimes, I wonder ‘Am I the main lead of Baahubali.’” The films also featured Anushka Shetty, Ramya Krishnan, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Sathyaraj.

Widespread recognition

On the fame that followed, Prabhas recalled, “People recognise me from all over the country which we didn’t expect. We thought that the film might work but not like this. Now, people recognise me from Telugu to suddenly all over the country. It is very beautiful.”

Baahubali re-edited version coming soon

Looking ahead, director SS Rajamouli, along with the original cast including Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah Bhatia, Anushka Shetty, Ramya Krishnan, and Sathyaraj, is set to release a re-imagined and re-edited version of the two films as a single feature. Rajamouli has combined the two films into a 3-hour and 45-minute cinematic experience, slated for release on October 31. Producer Shobu Yarlagadda told ETimes that a similar attempt had been made around 2018–19, but scheduling conflicts with the cast and crew led to the project being dropped. The new version is titled ‘Baahubali: The Epic’.
