When legal cases were filed against Vijay and Perarasu

When legal cases were filed against Vijay and Perarasu, 'Sivakasi' director recalls the 2005 controversy

Director Perarasu spoke at the audio launch of the movie ‘Valluvan’. He criticized recent social and political changes. Perarasu mentioned name changes and the alteration of cultural symbols. He praised the film for questioning injustice. The director also recalled a past controversy related to his film ‘Sivakasi’. He highlighted the courage of the ‘Valluvan’ director.

Many people attended and spoke at the audio launch of the movie ‘Valluvan’ held in Chennai. Telugu actor Chethan Seenu, who gained attention through the film ‘Naan Sigappu Manithan’ starring Vishal, plays the lead role in this film. The pre-release event of the film, directed by Shankar Sarathi, was a grand one. The first speaker at the festival was Meesai Rajendran, he praised the director’s statement that even if someone betrays the country, killing him is a virtue and said that works that protect Tamil culture should be produced.

Perarasu’s sharp criticism of social and political changes

Director Perarasu, who took the stage next, strongly criticized the social and political conditions in his speech. “Now the government is asking us to use ‘r’ instead of ‘n’ in names. If that’s the case, we can change the name ‘Valluvan’ to ‘Valluvar’,” he began, “but the title of this film itself says ‘He is a violent man’. He took the pen from Valluvar’s hand and gave him a knife,” he said, pointing out social injustices.

“Even Valluvar would have taken up the knife today,” says Perarasu

Perarasu continued, “If Valluvar (Thiruvalluvar) were here now, he would have taken up the knife himself — there is so much injustice happening. In the past, the name ‘Kalaignar Nagar’ was changed, and when the government changed, it was changed to ‘KK Nagar’. They change cultural symbols with every change of government, he said, criticizing the regime. He also praised the film, saying, “In a context where anyone who criticizes the court is arrested, this film is a courageous attempt to question the injustice done in the name of justice.”

Perarasu recalls his Sivakasi controversy

Perarasu also shared his old experience. “I shot the scene where I buy tea for a lawyer in the film Sivakasi for comedy. But for that, cases were filed against me, Vijay, and the producer in courts across Tamil Nadu,” he recalled. “In this film, the director has written a dialogue that says he can buy the judge himself — that requires as much courage as a hundred empires combined. The pride of Tamil cinema is films like this one that make people think instead of films that show cultural degradation,” Perarasu concluded his speech. Go to Source
