When Kumar Sanu spoke about fights with Anu Malik before he would praise him

When Kumar Sanu spoke about fights with Anu Malik in the studio while recording songs, before he would eventually praise the singer

Kumar Sanu may have delivered countless Bollywood classics, but one of his most entertaining stories involves music composer Anu Malik and his unpredictable reactions during recording sessions.A video clip from a past episode of Kapil Sharma’s comedy show has resurfaced online, in which the veteran singer recalled how Malik would often leave him confused with his blunt criticism, only to shower him with praise hours later.Sharing one such incident, Sanu revealed that he always tried to give his best in the very first take. However, that approach did not always earn immediate approval from the composer. He said, as quoted by IANS, “There used to be fights with Anu Malik for every song. I have a habit that I try to give 100 percent the first time. So I sang it for the first time. As soon as I sang it, he said, ‘Disgusting! what’s wrong with you? What’s wrong with you, Sanu? What’s wrong?’. I asked, him, ‘What happened, is there a problem?’ He said, you are singing so disgustingly. You are not in tune. Learn it once’. I gave it another shot”.What happened afterward left the singer even more puzzled. Despite Malik’s harsh reaction, the recording session wrapped up without any further discussion. Recalling the episode, Sanu said, “We did the take. He just got up and left the studio. I was standing on the mic. The recordist told me, ‘It’s done. Please come’. I kept my headphones, and went outside the recording room. I went home. At 11:00 pm, I got a call from Anu Malik. He said, ‘Bondka’. He calls me Bondka. I asked, ‘Who is this? Anu Malik?’ He said, ‘Yes. You performed exceptionally well today. After seven to eight hours, I got a reaction from him”.The anecdote offered a glimpse into the creative dynamic between the singer and composer, whose partnership produced several memorable Bollywood hits. Together, they created evergreen songs including Tere Dar Par Sanam, Chura Ke Dil Mera, the title track of Baazigar, and many other chartbusters that continue to resonate with listeners decades later. On the professional front, Kumar Sanu recently performed alongside his daughter Shannon K at a grand live symphony orchestra concert held at London’s Royal Albert Hall, adding another milestone to his celebrated musical journey.
