When Chris Hemsworth opened up about his dad’s Alzheimer’s

When Chris Hemsworth opened up about his dad's Alzheimer's disease and his struggles; shared a road trip as reminiscence therapy

Chris Hemsworth, the ‘Thor’ actor, shared heartbreaking news of his father showing early symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease in the recently released documentary. Showing the struggle and the journey to combat or halt the progression of the disease, the actor takes his 71-year-old dad through the memory lane and the special moments they had over the years.

Chris Hemsworth shared his dad’s struggles

Sharing an intimate look inside their lives, Chris took his dad on a road trip and assessed the memories with tapes, pictures, and films. Recreating the moments they shared in the house where they used to live in the ‘90s, the 42-year-old showed the struggle of Craig Hemsworth. In a certain instance, when the actor asks his father, “How does it feel?” in a quite sombre tone and smirk, he responds with, “I can’t.” As the documentary begins, Craig Hemsworth can be seen struggling with remembering the previous conversations. Moreover, the series of repetitive questions follows, where he asks when his wife will be arriving, and Chris reportedly got emotional as this was one of the first signs of Alzheimer’s, as per People. Opting for Reminiscence Therapy, the Hemsworths go on a long road trip with the 71-year-old’s old friend, Spencer, with whom he used to do the dangerous job of wrangling wild bulls and feral cows.

Chris Hemsworth has the genes

Previously, the ‘Avengers’ actor had opened up about how he found two copies of the gene ApoE4, inherited from his parents, after he took tests in the series ‘Limitless.’ In an interview with Vanity Fair, the actor confirmed that he belongs to the 2-3% of the population who are 10 times likely to have Alzheimer’s disease than those without the copies. As for the documentary about the road trip of Chris and Craig, ‘Chris Hemsworth: A Road Trip to Remember’ was released on November 23, 2025, on Nat Geo.
