‘War 2’ slips further, nets Rs 4 crore on second Friday

'War 2' box office collection Day 9: Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani starrer slips further, nets Rs 4 crore on second Friday

The high-octane spy thriller ‘War 2’, headlined by Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani, entered its second Friday on a shaky note. According to early estimates, the film collected just Rs 4 crore net across all languages on Day 9, taking its India total to Rs 208.25 crore.

Drop in ‘War 2’ collections

After scoring a thunderous Rs 57.85 crore on its first Friday, ‘War 2’ appeared poised to rewrite records. But a week later, the shine seems to have dulled. Thursday’s Rs 5 crore haul fell further to Rs 4 crore on Friday, signalling a sharp dip in momentum. The overall Hindi occupancy on Friday stood at 9.83%, with morning shows crawling at 5.70% and only a slight uptick to 15.12% by night.

Language breakdown

The film has seen an uneven performance across regions, with the Hindi version contributing the lion’s share at Rs 153.65 crore, followed by Rs 52.7 crore from the Telugu market, largely driven by Jr NTR’s strong fan base, and a modest Rs 1.7 crore from the Tamil version. Though crossing the Rs 200 crore mark in just over a week is an achievement, the uneven collections across languages highlight that the Spy Universe sequel has fallen short of matching its pre-release hype.

Hrithik’s box office rankings

With its Hindi total climbing past Rs 150 crore, ‘War 2’ has pushed ‘Super 30’ out of Hrithik Roshan’s top five highest earners. Still, the film struggles under the weight of comparisons to its predecessor. The original ‘War’ (2019), starring Hrithik and Tiger Shroff, not only shattered records but became a benchmark for action spectacles in Bollywood. The sequel, despite its scale and pan-India casting, hasn’t matched that euphoria.

Worldwide performance

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film has so far amassed Rs 243.85 crore gross in India. With overseas earnings estimated at Rs 70.15 crore, the film’s worldwide total stands at Rs 314 crore gross. However, with an estimated budget of Rs 400 crore, touted as the costliest film in YRF’s Spy Universe, the movie still has significant ground to cover before it can be declared a financial winner.
