‘Vishwanath And Sons’ not remake of Prithviraj’s ‘Kangaroo’

Suriya’s 'Vishwanath And Sons' not a remake of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s 'Kangaroo'; Team rejects rumours

Suriya is set to make waves in the Telugu film industry with ‘Vishwanath And Sons’, his debut confirmed to feature an entirely original storyline crafted by the talented Venky Atluri, dispelling the chatter about it being a remake. The film showcases a stellar ensemble cast, including Mamitha Baiju, Raveena Tandon, and Radhika Sarathkumar.

Actor Suriya’s upcoming Telugu project ‘Vishwanath And Sons’ has been creating strong buzz since its announcement. The film marks the star’s first direct Telugu movie and soon after the project was revealed, speculation began circulating online about the film’s storyline. Some social media users believed it could be a remake of the Malayalam film ‘Kangaroo’.However, the makers have now addressed the rumours. According to a report by the Telugu entertainment portal 123Telugu, the speculation surrounding the film is incorrect as the team has clarified that ‘Vishwanath And Sons’ is an original script created by director Venky Atluri.

Strong cast joins the project

Apart from Suriya, the film features an interesting supporting cast. Actress Mamitha Baiju will appear as the female lead in the movie. Actress Raveena Tandon and senior star Radhika Sarathkumar are part of the cast.

Why ‘Kangaroo’ comparisons started

The rumours linking the film to ‘Kangaroo’ began after discussions about its possible storyline started circulating online. The Malayalam film, directed by Raj Babu, was released in 2007.The movie starred Prithviraj Sukumaran, Jayasurya, and Kavya Madhavan in key roles. The story follows a young man named Josekutty who falls in love with Jancy and plans to marry her. However, the plot takes a dramatic turn when Jancy’s elder sister, who is an unwed mother, is found dead. Josekutty then raises her son and begins searching for the child’s father.Because of similarities suggested in early rumours many fans believed Suriya’s film might follow a similar narrative. The team has now put a stop to all such speculations.

Suriya eyes strong comeback

Suriya is currently aiming for a strong comeback at the box office. Some of his recent projects have not delivered the expected commercial results. His last major release ‘Retro’ which was directed by Karthik Subbaraj received an underwhelming response in theatres. The actor is now focusing on his upcoming projects to reconnect with audiences and one of the most anticipated among them is the film Karuppu. The project is directed by actor and filmmaker RJ Balaji and the recent reports suggest that ‘Karuppu’ is moving steadily toward completion. The makers are reportedly planning a theatrical release in April 2026.According to industry buzz, the team is aiming for April 10, 2026 as the release date. The timing could work well because it coincides with the Tamil New Year festival period and a long holiday weekend.A post from the Lets X OTT Global handle quoted music composer Sai Abhyankkar speaking about the progress of the film’s music. The tweet stated, “The movie #Karuppu is officially coming out this April! @SaiAbhyankkar confirmed the news at a recent event, and it sounds like things are moving fast. He mentioned that the background score work is going full speed and they are recording a lot of unique sounds. He’s really putting his heart into it and hopes the music truly represents their culture.”
