For Khanna, this praise from an icon was like a divine blessing. They met for the first time on Ganesh Chaturthi. Recalling that special moment, Khanna wrote, “I still remember the first time I met Lata ji… And then, by divine grace, I met my Goddess on Ganesh Chaturthi. We spoke on the phone often, and during Feed India, she truly stood by me.”

Inspired by their initial meeting, Vikas Khanna made a promise to visit Lata Mangeshkar’s Mumbai residence, Prabhu Kunj, every Ganesh Chaturthi. He kept this vow faithfully, flying to India from abroad solely for this purpose, except during the pandemic.He wrote, “I would fly to India just to touch her feet, pray, hear her voice, eat the best modaks… and then fly back. This ritual went on for years, and it has deeply inspired me.”

Vikas Khanna honors her legacy in New York

Even after her passing, Lata Mangeshkar’s influence remains a guiding force in Khanna’s life. He continues to honor their bond by celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi at his New York restaurant, Bungalow.
