Vijay once said Jyotika’s acting SURPASSED his own in a film

'Kushi' Re-release: Thalapathy Vijay once said Jyotika's acting SURPASSED his own in the film

Vijay and Jyotika’s Kushi, directed by SJ Suryah, is set to re-release in theaters this month. The film originally hit cinemas in 2000, and now, 25 years later, audiences can revisit the classic on the big screen. The movie was a box office hit and has continued to garner viewers over the years.

Vijay on Jyotika’s character in Kushi

During an interview with Cinema Today at the time of the film’s original release, Vijay spoke about Jyotika’s character and his experience working with her. He described her character as a very “shrewd person” in the film.He said, “Her gracefulness, mischief, intelligence, acting, dancing, etc., reflect a fast sense of time! So her character would naturally be liked by all.”Vijay went on to praise his co-star, stating that Jyotika’s performance had even surpassed his own. “Yet, if you review the entire film, it would be seen that Jyotika has excelled me in acting!” he shared.

Re-release of Kushi

Reports confirm that the film is scheduled to hit cinemas on September 25, 2025.

Re-release event highlights

At a recent event ahead of the re-release, director SJ Suryah shared how he had narrated the film to Vijay. He recalled that producer A. M. Ratnam had invited him to narrate the story to the actor, which left an impression on Vijay. However, the actor did not initially react. When Suryah asked if he wanted any changes to the script, Vijay simply replied, “This is good; let’s do this.”

More about Kushi

Alongside Vijay and Jyotika, the film also starred Mumtaj, Vijayakumar, Vivek, and Nizhalgal Ravi, contributing to the ensemble cast that made the movie a memorable hit.
