Urvashi’s Cannes look sparks copying row: ‘…Gigi Hadid’s saree’

Urvashi Rautela's Cannes 2026 look sparks copying row: 'First Indian woman to wear a first copy of Gigi Hadid's saree'

Urvashi Rautela’s Cannes appearance sparked a massive copying row on social media, as her ivory and gold saree looked strikingly similar to Gigi Hadid’s iconic look. Fashion page Diet Sabya and several users trolled her mercilessly for it. On the work front, she was last seen in Daaku Maharaj.

Urvashi Rautela knows exactly how to keep everyone talking, and her latest appearance at Cannes is no different. The actress set social media on fire with her stunning look that bears a striking resemblance to an outfit worn by supermodel Gigi Hadid during her India visit.

The ivory saree look that caused controversy for Urvashi Rautela

Photos and videos of Urvashi making a showstopping entrance are circulating online, and it’s not hard to see why. She was draped in an elegant ivory saree featuring a gleaming gold border, paired with a richly embellished golden blouse with a sweetheart neckline that added drama to the ensemble. To complete the look, she accessorised with bold statement jewellery, striking glam makeup, and soft, vintage-inspired waves that tied the whole look together beautifully.

Internet has a field day trolling Urvashi Rautela

Social media quickly noticed how similar it looked to Gigi Hadid’s famous white-and-gold saree look. The saree and its border looked almost identical to Gigi’s, and people wasted no time trolling Urvashi for it. Fashion police page Diet Sabya was among the first to call it out in their own bold and funny way. The page wrote, “Only the First Lady of the Universe/world/Dubai/billion/1300 cr could have performed this level of fashion necromancy to bring back Gandi Copy (RIP). Unless there has been a case of mass amnesia and I was not invited, I don’t think anyone has forgotten Gigi’s Abu Jani chikankari couture sari!! You need mega GUTS to pull this off . I won’t live. Generating enough EMVs to power an entire influ-town!”.The comments section flooded with reactions ranging from sarcastic to downright hilarious. A user commented, “I say URVA, you say … sheeeee err … GIGI???” “First Indian woman to wear a first copy of the very famous Gigi Hadid saree for the first time on the Cannes red carpet!!!! @urvashirautela,” another comment read. Another one wrote, “First Indian woman to copy Gigi and carry a gamla to Cannes.” Another comment read, “Oh behen…!!! First lady to copy .” ” and she’ll say she was the first to wear it,” a user wrote. Meanwhile, another comment read, “Oh these are just stunts to gain attention. All PR is good PR .” “Did she think we wouldn’t notice?” a user questioned.
