Trisha’s blue saree at Vijay’s swearing-in reminds fans of Aishwarya

Trisha Krishnan’s blue saree at Vijay’s swearing-in reminds fans of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s iconic look with Atal Bihari Vajpayee

The swearing-in ceremony of Thalapathy Vijay as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu turned into one of the biggest talking points online this week. While videos from the event — ranging from the actor-politician’s speech to his power dressing — quickly went viral, it was Trisha Krishnan who unexpectedly grabbed social media’s attention with her elegant appearance at the ceremony. The actress attended the event held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai, where she was seen greeting guests, hugging Vijay’s mother and later leaving the venue amid heavy fan frenzy.

Internet compares Trisha Krishnan’s saree look to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

For the high-profile event, Trisha Krishnan opted for an ice-blue silk saree from Pothys. She paired the saree with a custom blouse by Niram and accessorised the look with diamond and ruby jewellery from GRT Jewellers.Keeping her styling traditional and understated, the actress completed the look with a low bun decorated with gajra, kohl-lined eyes and soft dewy makeup. Soon after pictures from the event surfaced online, several social media users began comparing Trisha’s appearance to one of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s iconic saree looks from the early 2000s.Internet users dug up an old photograph of Aishwarya from her meeting with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2000, where the actress wore a similar blue saree with golden embroidery.Aishwarya had styled the saree with traditional gold jewellery, a centre-parted bun, winged eyeliner and pink lipstick.

‘Nandini and Kundavai’

As the images went viral, fans also began connecting the two actresses through their characters from Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: I and Ponniyin Selvan: II.One X user shared the pictures side-by-side and captioned them, “Nandini and Kundavai,” referring to the characters played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Trisha Krishnan in the films.Another user compared Trisha’s appearance with a still of Aishwarya from Kandukondain Kandukondain, while several others called Aishwarya’s original appearance “the template.”One Instagram post comparing the two looks also incorrectly claimed that Aishwarya had worn the saree in Iruvar. However, fans later clarified that the viral image was actually from her meeting with Atal Bihari Vajpayee and not from the film.
