The FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremonies in Canada and the United States was a star-studded affair with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars in the stands, joining fans in cheering for their teams. The grand event in Los Angeles proved to be a celebrity spectacle, with Hollywood stars, from Tom Cruise, to David Beckhan, and Katy Perry stealing all the attention.

Cruise had all eyes on him during the United States’ World Cup opener against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium. Videos doing the rounds online, saw the Mission: Impossible star and football icon David Beckham, greeting fans throughout the match. The actor was even seen signing autographs on jerseys, posing for selfies and even shaking hands with members of the audience around his VIP box.Cruise and Beckham were among a host of celebrity guests in attendance for the Group D clash. Elsewhere in the stands, fans spotted Katy Perry and her boyfriend, Justin Trudeau watching the game after her electrifying performance. The match also attracted several known faces from socialite Paris Hilton, actor Jamie Foxx and actor Vince Vaughn.

Ryan Reynolds cheers for Canada at Toronto Stadium

Meanwhile, Canada’s historic first men’s World Cup match on home soil attracted its own share of celebrity star power. Actor and Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds was among the high-profile attendees at Toronto Stadium as Canada took on Bosnia and Herzegovina in its Group B opener. Reynolds was seen celebrating Canada’s equaliser, which secured a 1-1 draw and earned the nation its first-ever FIFA World Cup point.

Also spotted at the LA stadium were legendary filmmaker George Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson, comfortably watching the United States vs. Paraguay match.

Mike Myers spotted

Fellow Canadian star Mike Myers, was also in attendance, sporting Canadian colours.
