‘This is not me’: Reese Witherspoon warns fans of scam

‘This is not me’: Reese Witherspoon issues urgent scam alert to followers

Actress Reese Witherspoon warned her followers about a scammer posing as her on various social media platforms this week. The actress, who won an Oscar and star of ‘Big Little Lies,’ opened up about the alerts she’d been receiving nonstop in the past day in a heartfelt video on TikTok, where the scammer was operating under her handle on the platform, along with Instagram. Her tone in the video had a mix of irritation and concern, revealing just how seriously she was taking the issue, despite it not affecting her directly in any immediate way.

Scammers’ sneaky tactics

“Hey, this is important,” she began, her tone urgent yet steady. They fish for personal details, push for meetups, or even ask for cash, all while masquerading as the friendly star from Big Little Lies or Legally Blonde. “I want you to know this is not me,” she insisted, her words cutting through the noise. What upset her most was the manipulation at play. “It’s so upsetting that people would use my name to manipulate people, but I would never, ever manipulate you,” she added, emphasizing that she’d never reach out privately for money, info, or in-person hangs.

Reese Witherspoon is not the only one

This isn’t an isolated incident for Witherspoon or Hollywood. Just last June, Helen Mirren called out scammers using her name for phony charities. Stars like Sandra Bullock, Johnny Depp, and Tom Hanks have faced similar cons in recent months, turning social media into a minefield for fans eager for a celebrity connection. Witherspoon wrapped her message with practical advice: always check for verified badges on accounts. “If somebody’s talking to you like this, it’s not just me—it’s happening across the board,” she noted, urging caution in a world where digital deception runs rampant.
