Sheela began her film journey at the age of 17, making her debut in the Tamil movie Paasam, starring MGR, which released in 1962. The superstar added ‘Devi’ to her name, and she became Sheela Devi. Later, however, she reverted to the name Sheela.Over the years, she appeared in numerous notable films, including Chemmeen, Velutha Katharina, Bhagyajathakam, Kannapan Unni, and Kadathunattu Makan. After starring in multiple Tamil films, she made her Malayalam debut with Bhagyajathakam. Sheela has worked in films across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu languages.During her peak, she was one of the highest-paid actresses, often charging higher fees than her co-stars.

According to an India.com report, Sheela worked in over 130 films with Prem Nazir, earning her a Guinness World Record for this remarkable feat.

National Award win

Sheela made a comeback to the big screen in 2003 after a 22-year hiatus with the film Manasinakkare. Two years later, in 2005, she received widespread appreciation for her role in Akale, earning the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.
