‘The Taj Story’ Twitter review: Film sparks mixed reactions

‘The Taj Story’ Twitter review: Paresh Rawal’s film sparks mixed reactions, wins praise for performance and dialogues, but loses on execution

Paresh Rawal starrer ‘The Taj Story’ has become the latest talking point on social media after its release on 31 October 2025. The film, directed by Tushar Amrish Goel, promised a dramatic blend of history, mystery and courtroom drama, but going by the early reactions, the film has sparked a storm of mixed opinions on X (formerly Twitter). The film, which also stars Zakir Hussain, Amruta Khanvilkar, Namit Das and Sneha Wagh, explores the mystery surrounding the 22 sealed rooms of the Taj Mahal and attempts to question the history we’ve long accepted. While some viewers found it bold and thought-provoking, others dismissed it as confused and dull.

Viewers hail Paresh Rawal’s powerful performance

Netizens on social media have been full of praise for Paresh Rawal and the film’s writing. One user wrote, “@SirPareshRawal Watching The Taj Story — and trust me, the audience is going absolutely crazy with every dialogue of yours! Kudos to you and the entire team. The historical details of India truly deserve to be revisited and reinterpreted.” Another fan shared similar excitement, writing, “Brilliant writing by Tushar Amrish Goel. This film reflects the questions millions have about the history we’ve been taught.” Trade analyst Sumit Kadel also joined in, writing that “positive response [is] pouring in for #TheTajStory — audiences are calling it the most important movie of the year.”

Viewers praise fiery dialogues

Some viewers were impressed by the film’s fiery dialogues and the way Rawal brought them to life. One post read, “If you’re looking for lines that land with real force, The Taj Story delivers. The screenplay is packed with fiery dialogues. In one scene, a character stands in the dusty halls beneath the monument and says: ‘After seventy-odd years of freedom, why is our story still locked in someone else’s version?’ It’s the kind of line that hits you on an intellectual level and sticks. #PareshRawal’s performance is measured, intense, his pauses as telling as his words. The film gives him scenes where he must not just argue but embody the weight of conviction, and he does so convincingly.”

Some netizens call it dull and confusing

But not everyone was impressed. A netizen called the film a disappointment, claiming that its execution failed to live up to its intriguing idea. One wrote, “#TheTajStory is a sleep-inducing disaster! Director confused history with fiction & still failed. Script dull, acting lifeless, music torture. Even my remote wanted to escape halfway!” Another review in Hindi summed up a similar sentiment, “Dekho, #TheTajStory ka idea interesting tha, history aur mystery ka mix. Par direction aur execution ne thodi momentum kho di. Thodi der baad boredom aa gaya.” (The idea of #TheTajStory was interesting — a mix of history and mystery. But the direction and execution lost some momentum. After a while, it started to feel a bit boring.)

‘The Taj Story’ controversy

Just before its nationwide release, ‘The Taj Story’ found itself caught in controversy. Two Public Interest Litigations (PILs) were filed, seeking a ban on the film and demanding that its certification be reviewed. The petitions accused the film of misrepresenting historical facts. In an interview with NDTV, Rawal and co-star Hussain spoke about the issue, making it clear that the film was based on solid research and was not made to create division.

Paresh Rawal defends the film’s intent

Rawal came out strongly in support of the film and its director. He said, “Tushar (the director) came with amazing research. There is nothing hanky-panky in it. His sources were clearly mentioned, and I even checked with friends who confirmed the facts. From the very beginning, we made sure there would be no Hindu-Muslim jingoism in this film.”Rawal further added that the story deliberately avoids any attempt to create tension between communities. “There’s even a dialogue in the film where a character says, ‘Brother, it’s you journalists who make everything about Hindu and Muslim. There’s no Hindu-Muslim conflict here. This is about shared history,’” he explained. Go to Source
