The Taj Story inches toward Rs 20 Crore mark

Paresh Rawal’s ‘The Taj Story’ inches toward Rs 20 Crore mark

Paresh Rawal’s ‘The Taj Story’ is nearing the Rs 20 crore mark despite a dip in its third week. After a significant Monday drop, the courtroom drama saw a slight recovery on Tuesday, reaching Rs 19.55 crore. Its provocative premise about the Taj Mahal’s authenticity fueled initial interest, making it a profitable venture on a modest budget.

Paresh Rawal’s The Taj Story is gradually moving toward the coveted Rs 20 crore milestone, even as the film faces evident fatigue in its third week. After suffering a massive 80% Monday drop, a slight recovery on Tuesday with collections of Rs 25 lakh. The spike has brought a new glimmer of hope for the film , the courtroom drama, which sparked conversation nationwide with its provocative premise, now stands at a solid Rs 19.55 crore, inching closer to completing the Rs 20 crore mark. The film had collected Rs 65 lakh on Sunday, but Monday’s nosedive to Rs 15 lakh suggested that the film’s strong hold at the box office was beginning to loosen rapidly. However, Tuesday’s improvement to Rs 25 lakh indicates that The Taj Story still retains some residual audience interest. Also the Tuesday spike has happened because cinema chains offer discounts to attract more audiences on the 2nd weekday of the week. The box office journey of The Taj Story has been one marked by consistency and surprise. In its first week, the film amassed Rs 11 crore, an impressive feat for a mid-budget courtroom thriller with limited marketing. The second week added another Rs 6.67 crore, taking the total to Rs 17.67 crore before entering Week 3. With Tuesday’s collection included, the film’s total now stands at Rs 19.55 crore, putting it just a breath away from crossing the Rs 20 crore. What has worked in the film’s favour is its bold and intriguing plot. The Taj Story revolves around a Taj Mahal guide, played by Rawal, who files a petition questioning the authenticity of the world-famous monument , who built it, why it was built, and whether it is truly a mausoleum. The narrative sparked heated debates and drew audiences to theatres, especially during the first two weeks, where the film witnessed strong weekend growth and sustained weekday numbers. The film’s budget reportedly around Rs 7-8 crore ensures that The Taj Story is already a profitable venture. Meanwhile, Paresh Rawal’s fans have plenty to look forward to. The veteran actor will next be seen in Priyadarshan’s Bhoot Bangla, co-starring Akshay Kumar, followed by the highly anticipated Hera Pheri 3, set to roll in 2026.
