‘Thamma’ inches towards Rs 130 crore in India

'Thamma' box office collection day 16: The Ayushmann Khurrana starrer inches towards Rs 130 crore after seeing a drop with newer releases like 'Baahubali: The Epic' and 'The Taj Story'

‘Thamma’, the latest horror comedy from the universe which also includes the ‘Stree’ franchise, ‘Munjya’, ‘Bhediya’ among others, released this Diwali. The film clashed with Harshvardhan Rane’s ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ which proved to be a box office winner despite lesser screens than ‘Thamma’. But the Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer has managed to get a strong hold at the box office over the last sixteen days. The film has now begun to slow down as ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’, continued to grow and hold momentum through positive word of mouth. Meanwhile, this Friday, one saw the release of ‘Baahubali: The Epic’ and also ‘The Taj Story’ which further divided the screens and the attention of the audience. Hence, ‘Thamma’ has now begun to slow down. After making Rs 108.4 crore in its extended 10 day week, as it released on Diwali, the film made Rs 3 crore on second Friday, which matched to its Thursday collection of Rs 3.4 crore. Over its second weekend, it saw some growth and collected Rs 4.4 crore and Rs 4.5 crore respectively on Saturday and Sunday. But it saw a huge drop on Monday and just collected Rs 1.5 crore. On Tuesday, due to discounted ticket prices, there may be some spike and it made Rs 2 crore. The number on day 16, Wednesday is also similar as it made Rs 2 crore.

Rashmika Mandanna Works 12-Hour Shifts, ‘Thamma’ Director Praises Her Amid 8-Hour Shift Debate

Thus, the total collection of ‘Thamma’ is now Rs 126.05 crore, according to Sacnilk. It’s mainly the Diwali season that’s helping the film put up better numbers than a title like ‘Munjya’ and inch its way to an Average verdict. The festive period has that kind of pull. Even a decade ago, a film like ‘Ra.One’, which was largely rejected by audiences content-wise—managed to become a theatrical HIT simply because it released around Diwali. With the timing working perfectly in its favour, it went on to surpass all of Shah Rukh Khan’s earlier releases and became his highest grosser back then, as per Box Office India.
