‘Tanvi The Great’ tells the story of Tanvi Raina, played by debutante Shubhangi Dutt. Tanvi is autistic and dreams of becoming an Indian Army officer. She grows up in Lansdowne with her grandfather, Colonel Pratap Raina, played by Anupam Kher, and her mother Vidya, played by Pallavi Joshi.The plot focuses on Tanvi’s determination to complete what her late father, Captain Samar Raina, started. Samar, played by Karan Tacker, wanted to salute the national flag atop Siachen Glacier. He died while serving the country. Tanvi decides to honor his legacy. She pushes through physical and mental challenges. She confronts what the film calls “ableist” norms and social expectations.

The cast blends new and veteran talent. Jackie Shroff plays Brigadier Joshi. Boman Irani appears as Raja Sahab, Tanvi’s music teacher. Arvind Swami portrays Major Srinivasan. Iain Glen plays Michael Simmons. Cinematographer Keiko Nakahara captures the landscapes of Ladakh and Uttarakhand. Oscar-winning M.M. Keeravani composed the score.The film debuted in theaters on July 18, 2025. Reports state it received a seven-minute standing ovation at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. By January 2026, its limited theatrical run had crossed 100 days. It also appeared on the Oscars 2026 recall list for Best Picture eligibility.
