'Tangled': BLACKPINK's Lisa to join Scarlett Johansson in live-action? Actress in the running with Sydney Sweeney, Aimee Lou Wood

Months after news broke about a ‘Tangled’ live-action film in the works, there is a new update. Following buzz that actress Scarlett Johansson has been tapped to play the Villainous role of Mother Gothel, there is buzz about who may be the likely candidate to play the Disney Princess. According to viral buzz and unconfirmed reports, a surprising shortlist of contenders to play the role of Rapunzel has been revealed. Buzz states that the actress to likely join the ranks of Disney Princesses would be a ‘White Lotus’ star. This has turned the focus to Aimee Lou Wood, Sydney Sweeney, and even BLACKPINK star Lisa, who all happen to feature on the hit series.

Actresses in the running to bag role

Fans online have been particularly vocal about Lisa being in the running. In The White Lotus, she played the role of Mook, one of the staf at the hotel. The role marked her acting debut. While all signs currently seem to point to Lisa, Wood and Sweeney also seem to be top contenders. The casting will depend on both strong acting and vocal talent. The animated film featured chart-topping songs like ‘When Will My Life Begin?’, ‘Mother Knows Best’ and the romantic ballad, ‘I See the Light’. Scarlett recently teased that the rumours about her casting may not be untrue. She is reportedly set to play Mother Gothel, the cunning and manipulative woman who kidnaps Rapunzel and locks her in a tower to gain youthful beauty from her magical hair.

About the live-action film

The project, which was reportedly delayed owing to a bunch of live-action failures, is now said to be back on track.The original Tangled was a box office hit, grossing nearly $600 million worldwide and went on to become one of the most beloved modern fairy tales. The story follows Rapunzel, a princess with magical, golden hair, who spends her entire life locked in a tower, until a thief named Flynn Rider helps take her on an adventure unlike any other.As far as Lisa’s professional commitments are concerned, the singer is rumoured to be heading back to the studio for a new BLACKPINK album. She is also reportedly set to star opposite Ma Dong Seok in an upcoming film.
