‘Taare Zameen Par’ actor who played Yohaan is now a dentist and pilot in UK

'Taare Zameen Par' child actor who played Yohaan Awasthi is now a dentist and pilot in UK, here's what he looks like now

When ‘Taare Zameen Par’ released in 2007, it did far more than entertain audiences. The film, directed by Aamir Khan, ignited discussions around parenting, the pressures of the education system, and the realities faced by children with learning disabilities. It also introduced viewers to two talented child artists, Darsheel Safary and Sachet Engineer. While Darsheel remained connected to the world of acting, Sachet quietly stepped away from the limelight. Nearly 20 years later, the actor who played Ishaan Awasthi’s affectionate elder brother has built an entirely different career path as a dentist in the UK and is now pursuing his passion for aviation as well.In the film, Sachet portrayed Yohaan Nandkishore Awasthi, the academically gifted older sibling who excelled at studies and sports while standing firmly by Ishaan’s side. As it turns out, the actor’s real-life journey mirrors some of those qualities. Rather than continuing in showbiz, he chose to focus on academics and professional growth.According to his LinkedIn profile, Sachet completed an M.Clin.Dent in Periodontology from the renowned UCL Eastman Dental Institute in London. He is also a registered member of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) and has successfully cleared both parts of the Overseas Registration Examination (ORE), qualifying him to practise dentistry in the UK. Before relocating overseas, he graduated from DY Patil University, where he was awarded a gold medal in Periodontology. But his ambitions extend beyond dentistry.Though his Instagram profile remains private, occasional posts offer glimpses into his life. In 2024, Sachet revealed his interest in flying by sharing a photograph from an aircraft cockpit. Reflecting on the experience, he wrote, “Being in control up here makes the fiercest challenges down below shrink to insignificance. A true reminder that the horizon is endless, and so are possibilities. My first flight, but certainly not the last.”Despite becoming a familiar face after the success of ‘Taare Zameen Par’, Sachet has maintained that acting was never a carefully planned career choice. In 2022, in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, he revealed how he unexpectedly landed the role.“I am from a film family. My grandmother, Krishna Kumari Seth, was an actress while my grandfather, Suraj Prakash, was a producer. So I was always surrounded by the world of films, though I didn’t plan to get into the field. The makers were originally auditioning my younger brother. I just happened to be there and they asked me, ‘Why don’t you also audition?’ I did, and a month later, I got a call. I was 11 at that time,” he recalled. The film’s popularity brought him instant recognition, but he chose not to capitalise on it by signing more movies.“People started recognising me on the streets. I would just smile. I’ve grown quite a bit, but still people are able to guess. Or they feel they’ve seen me somewhere. I did a couple of commercials later on. I got a few film offers but didn’t take them up because I wanted to pursue my education before I got sidetracked,” he said.Interestingly, Sachet had not ruled out a return to acting altogether. In the same interview, he expressed interest in revisiting the profession after completing his studies. However, four years later, there has been no indication of a comeback, with his focus seemingly remaining on dentistry and aviation. Go to Source
