Dharmendra’s passing on November 24 brought great sorrow across the film industry. The veteran actor’s demise led to the shelving of the much-anticipated ‘Apne 2’, which was originally set to star him alongside his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. Filmmaker Anil Sharma had earlier confirmed the project’s halt. However, producer Deepak Mukut recently shared that they are now revisiting and rewriting the script in light of Dharmendra’s death.’
Deepak Mukut shares Dharmendra’s excitement for sequel
A few months ago, Deepak shared the ‘Apne 2’ script with the late veteran actor during a discussion with Mid-Day. The actor expressed great excitement about reuniting with his sons and working alongside his grandson Karan. According to Deepak, Dharmendra was very excited about the sequel. It was one of his wishes to make ‘Apne 2’ with his children. They are reworking the script now, which will be told from the point of view of Sunny and Bobby’s characters. There will be some changes as Dharmendra is no more. They are working on incorporating the Dharmendra character in some way.
‘Apne 2’ as a tribute and story continuation
Deepak further explained that ‘Apne 2’ stands as a shraddhanjali to the legendary actor. “If I cannot make a movie with Dharamji, I can pay my respects to him through it. Apne 2 will be made and it will be a tribute to Dharamji,” he stated. The producer also clarified that it continues the storyline from the first film, introducing only Karan as the son of Angad (played by Sunny Deol).

‘Apne’, directed by Anil Sharma, starred Dharmendra with his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, along with Katrina Kaif, Shilpa Shetty, and Kirron Kher. The film was produced by Prime Focus and Glamour Entertainment and was released theatrically on June 29, 2007. It is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
