Sunjay’s sister alleges Priya broke his marriage with Karisma

Sunjay Kapur’s sister Mandhira alleges Priya Sachdev broke his marriage with Karisma Kapoor: ‘He was trying to fix it’

The Kapur family is back in the headlines following shocking claims by Mandhira Kapur Smith, the sister of the late businessman Sunjay Kapur. In a recent interview, Mandhira accused Sunjay’s third wife, Priya Sachdev, of creating a rift between Sunjay and his second wife, actress Karisma Kapoor, at a time when Sunjay was reportedly working to save his marriage. The revelations come amid reports of a staggering Rs 30,000 crore inheritance dispute between Priya and Sunjay’s children with Karisma.

‘He was trying to fix his marriage’

Mandhira claimed that Priya pursued her brother while he was still in a vulnerable phase of his relationship with Karisma.“Yes, she used to message him constantly when he was with Lolo, and I know this for a fact. He was in a marriage, working on it, trying to fix it. He wasn’t in the most stable place to say, ‘Hey, I’m not interested,’” she told Vickey Lalwani. Mandhira didn’t hold back in describing Priya’s role in the marriage breakdown.“As a woman, when someone has had children and has also just gone through a divorce, you know how painful it is. Then how and why would you come and break another family? What kind of upbringing is this? What kind of woman is that?”

Family tried to save the marriage

According to Mandhira, Sunjay was encouraged by their father and family to repair the relationship with Karisma. “There was a lot that happened that wasn’t nice, but my father wanted them to work on it. Sunjay was going back and forth. They had a second child—that doesn’t happen out of thin air. It happens when you’re working on a marriage,” she explained. While acknowledging that Karisma had briefly returned to Mumbai due to unhappiness, Mandhira insisted that Sunjay remained committed to reconciliation.“I know it takes two to clap, but as women, we know a man’s weaker and a woman is always stronger,” she added. Sunjay and Karisma married in 2003 and share two children, Samaira and Kiaan Raj Kapoor. The couple officially divorced in 2016. Sunjay later married Priya Sachdev in 2017, before his untimely death earlier this year.
