Sunita went from miniskirts to sarees for Govinda’s mother

Govinda faces divorce petition from wife over cheating claims; niece pens cryptic note on love

Govinda and Ssunita Ahuja got married in 1987. They are parents to two children, Tina and Yashvardhan Ahuja. The couple has shared nearly four decades together, but recently they found themselves in the spotlight again due to divorce rumours. While neither of them has made an official statement, people close to the family have brushed aside the talk of separation.Amid this noise, let’s have a look at Ssunita’s throwback interview where she revealed how her style went through a big change after marriage, as Govinda’s mother did not approve of her modern outfits.

Ssunita Ahuja changed fashion choices for mother-in-law

In a past chat on Timeout With Ankit, Ssunita revealed how her fashion sense completely changed once she married Govinda. She said, “I went from wearing miniskirts to sarees. That’s why my husband used to hate me. I would tell him, ‘I’m from Bandra, you’re from Virar, boss.’ And he’d say, ‘No, my mother won’t like it.’”

Ssunita and Govinda tied the knot at a young age

Ssunita also recalled how early she tied the knot with Govinda. She shared, “I got married when I was 18, I got married when I was 19. We got married very early because his mother was getting old and Govinda was the last child. She wanted to see him getting married and have kids.”

Govinda and Ssunita’s marriage stood the test of time

The couple’s journey together has been a long one. Ssunita highlighted the strength of their bond by saying, “If there’s anyone other than his mother that he loves, it’s me. I’ve been with him since before he was a megastar. I’ve been with him through thick and thin, through good days and bad. There must be a reason we’ve stayed together for 40 years, otherwise when do you hear of relationships that last this long these days?”

Divorce rumours dismissed as old news by manager

Recently, reports claimed that Ssunita officially filed for divorce on 5 December 2024 at the Bandra Family Court, citing adultery, cruelty, and desertion. However, Govinda’s manager Shashi Sinha dismissed the latest talk, telling PTI, “This is the same old news which came out six-seven months ago. Ssunita had filed a divorce petition six-seven months ago, now everything is getting settled. In a week or so everyone will hear the news.”He also added that the family is united for the upcoming celebrations,“The whole family is going to celebrate the Ganesh Chaturthi festival together, for which Ssunita is busy doing the preparation.”
