Suniel opens up about his initial doubts over Welcome to the Jungle

Suniel Shetty opens up about his initial doubts over 'Welcome to the Jungle': ‘Brain rot cinema can srike chord'

Suniel Shetty admitted he was initially skeptical about joining ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ due to its massive ensemble cast but is glad he said yes. Dismissing ‘Tropic Thunder’ comparisons, he said audiences will decide, adding that “brain rot cinema” can work too. He is now gearing up for action thriller ‘Hitman’ with Tiger Shroff.

Suniel Shetty revealed he had doubts about joining ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ due to the large ensemble cast but is happy he ultimately took the plunge. Brushing aside comparisons with ‘Tropic Thunder’, he left the verdict to the audiences, while also noting that “brain rot cinema” has its own place and can strike a chord with viewers.

Suniel Shetty opens up about his initial skepticism over ‘Welcome to the Jungle’

While Suniel had reservations about signing on to ‘Welcome to the Jungle’, he is now glad he changed his mind. The film, directed by Ahmed Khan, has reportedly crossed the Rs 50 crore mark in its opening weekend. As reported in Mid-day, “Initially I was skeptical about doing it as I wasn’t sure whether justice could be done to so many actors,” said Shetty of the ensemble film that has a principal cast of 30-plus actors. “I knew the script was over-the-top but because I was comfortable with my producer Firoz A Nadiadwallah and Ahmed, I said yes to it.”

Suniel Shetty dismisses ‘Tropic Thunder’ comparisons with ‘Welcome to the Jungle’

Several observers have pointed out similarities between ‘Welcome to the Jungle’, which also features Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, and Disha Patani, among others, and Ben Stiller’s 2008 Hollywood comedy ‘Tropic Thunder’, in which a film crew’s jungle shoot spirals into a real combat situation. However, Shetty remains unfazed by such comparisons, reasoning, “Comparisons will keep happening. What makes a difference is the writing, performances, the director’s vision, and our belief that over-the-top, brain rot cinema will also work. We are nobody to judge. Audiences have enjoyed Welcome to the Jungle.”

Suniel Shetty gears up for action thriller ‘Hitman’ with Tiger Shroff

Having wrapped up the comedy entertainer, Suniel is now gearing up for an action thriller titled ‘Hitman’. Directed by Sachin Ravi, the film sees Shetty stepping into the role of a mentor to Tiger Shroff’s character. There is buzz that his role carries grey shades, though Shetty chose to play it close to his chest, only saying, “I cannot say anything till the producer announces it. Grey is always good, but black never is.”

Suniel Shetty on why comedy films are as important as spectacle films

Suniel emphasised that comedy films hold just as much value as big-scale spectacle films like ‘Dhurandhar’. “I love Aditya Dhar’s cinema. For me, entertainment is [a movie] that appeals to kids and families. The way they are going to the theatres for ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ speaks for itself,” he said. Go to Source
