SRK once spoke about sister Shahnaz’s struggles

‘For two years she didn’t speak’: Shah Rukh Khan once revealed how parents’ demise changed sister Shahnaz Lalarukh Khan

TRIGGER WARNING: This article contains references to mental health struggles. Shah Rukh Khan is called the ‘King’ of Bollywood. The ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ actor has won hearts with his acting skills, charm, and warmth as a person. But behind his bright smile, there also lies the sadness of losing his parents, Meer Taj Mohammed Khan and Lateef Fatima Khan, at an early age.

Shah Rukh Khan is the ultimate family man

SRK’s love for his family is well-known to all his fans and followers. He has aced the roles of a husband and father. But what many don’t know is that he is also a loving brother to his elder sister, Shahnaz Lalarukh Khan. She always keeps away from the public eye. SRK once spoke lovingly about her and shared her story.

Shah Rukh Khan’s sister’s life changed after parents demise

After their parents passed away, life changed drastically for Shahnaz. In an old interaction with media, the ‘Raees’ actor said, “She didn’t cry, she didn’t say anything, she just fell and hit her head on the ground. For two years after that, she didn’t cry, she didn’t speak, she just kept looking into space; it just changed her world. By God’s grace she is better now…”

How Shahnaz faced emotional challenges

It was very hard for both Shah Rukh and Shahnaz to handle such a tragic loss. But they coped in different ways. Shahnaz found it hard to accept what had happened, while Shah Rukh said he tried to act strong and brave. He also knew he had to take care of his sister. Recounting a difficult time, he further explained, “During the making of ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge,’ she again was hospitalized and they (the doctors) said she would not survive. I took her to Switzerland, got her treated there while I was shooting ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh Ye Jana Sanam.’ But she hasn’t ever recovered, from the loss of her father, the suddenness of his passing away. Then it got compounded with my mother passing away ten years later.”

Shah Rukh Khan supported her through hardships

Even while worrying about his sister, Shah Rukh had to remain strong for himself. He confessed, “So, a part of me keeps on working round the clock, keeps on being happy despite the things that are said about me or they make a joke about things that I do but still keep doing them because if I do not, I think I would be in the same state of potassium deficiency and depression. So, to avoid depression, I act.”

About Shahnaz Lalarukh Khan

Thankfully, Shahnaz is doing much better now. She remains one of Shah Rukh’s closest and strongest pillars. She has always stood by him in thick and thin. Recently, she was seen at the premiere of Aryan Khan’s directorial debut, ‘The Ba***ds of Bollywood’.

Shah Rukh Khan on the work front

SRK is currently busy with his next film, ‘King’. His daughter Suhana Khan will make her acting debut in it, alongside an ensemble cast including Deepika Padukone and Abhishek Bachchan.
