Sonakshi on interfaith marriage with Zaheer: I won’t be the last

Sonakshi Sinha shuts down chatter around her interfaith marriage with Zaheer Iqbal, ‘I’m not the first person who did it, I won’t be the last’

Sonakshi Sinha opened up about the conversations and criticism surrounding her interfaith marriage with Zaheer Iqbal during her appearance on Soha Ali Khan’s podcast. Recalling the reaction that followed their June 2024 wedding, she said, “It’s just noise. Yeah, it’s absolutely just noise because, like you said, I’m not the first person who did it. I’m not going to be the last.”

Sonakshi blocked out negativity on her wedding day

Calling out unsolicited opinions from strangers, she added, “It’s a grown-ass woman making a life choice, which people who I don’t even know — everybody had a say in it for some reason, which I didn’t understand. And it just felt all really stupid at that point of time.”For Sonakshi, the wedding was about the two of them finally stepping into a long-awaited chapter. “Honestly, it was all about us in that moment. And this was something that we were waiting for, for a very long time. And it was finally coming true. It was happening. And we were just really, really thrilled and really ecstatic to be able to finally spend our lives with each other. And it was beautiful for us.”The actor also shared how overwhelming it was to deal with negativity on a day meant for joy. “It is very difficult because especially at that point in time where you want nothing but positivity coming your way. We live in a social media world. I had to put off my comments because I didn’t even want to read a single negative thing on my big day about me or my partner or my family or anybody involved. And so I just put it off. You have to cut out the noise.”

Sonakshi Sinha & Zaheer’s Family Moments Melt Fans’ Hearts

Sonakshi reveals she and Zaheer took couples therapy

Sonakshi further revealed that she and Zaheer faced a challenging phase three years into their relationship. “We wanted to pull each other’s hair. And no matter what we did, we just could not understand the other person’s perspective. But we knew in our hearts that we have to make it work somehow.” It was Zaheer who pushed for professional help, she said. “We did actually do couples therapy, and it was Zaheer who suggested it.” According to Sonakshi, just a couple of sessions made a big difference. “Mere two therapy sessions helped us strengthen our bond.”
