Shraddha Kapoor on India’s Women’s World Cup 2025 triumph: ‘For decades, we heard about 1983’

India is bursting with pride after the Women’s Cricket Team clinched their maiden ICC Women’s World Cup title on home soil. The historic victory which happened on November 2, 2025, at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium saw India defeat South Africa by 52 runs in a thrilling final. Among the many celebrities who joined the celebration, actress Shraddha Kapoor’s heartfelt post stood out as she compared the victory to the Indian men’s team’s legendary 1983 World Cup win under Kapil Dev.

‘This is our 1983 moment’

Taking to social media, Shraddha wrote, “For decades, sirf parents se sunte the what 1983 felt like. Humein humara ye wala moment dene ke liye thank you girls. This is for generations.” For the unversed, Shraddha’s reference to 1983 is the year Kapil Dev’s team stunned the world by defeating the mighty West Indies at Lord’s.

Meanwhile, several celebrities have shared their love for the Women in blue. Abhishek Bachchan Tweeted, “‘COME ONNNN!!!! INDIAAAAA!!! world champions. Well done ladies.” Priyanka Chopra shared an emotional note, saying, “I grew up watching the heroes in blue… tonight, they all look like her. World champions. Congratulations team India .” Anushka Sharma wrote, “You champions!! SUCH A momentous achievement.” Kiara Advani echoed the sentiment, adding, “What an incredible moment, you have created history!!! Congratulations to our Women in Blue.” Suniel Shetty Tweeted, “Sweat. Spirit. Grit. Sheer Heart. And that’s how HISTORY got a glow-up! Our Women in Blue didn’t chase glory, they owned it. For every little girl with a dream, and every single Indian out there, say it loud — WE ARE WORLD CHAMPIONS.” Hrithik Roshan Tweeted, “Jeet gaye!! HISTORIC! Congratulations Team India on our first Women’s Cricket World Cup win. To the beginning of many more… All my love & respect.”Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, the Women in Blue ended a 52-year-long wait for the trophy. The historic win was powered by stellar performances from Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma.
