Shoojit Sircar returns to comedy with a rare mythological spin on Mahabharata, starring Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao. Shooting begins 2026, blending wit and epic roots unconventionally. Fresh off ‘I Want to Talk’, Bajpayee eyes ‘Family Man 3’, Rao leads ‘Maalik’.

Shoojit Sircar, known for his distinctive storytelling, has directed acclaimed films including ‘October’, ‘Sardar Udham’, and the much-loved ‘Vicky Donor’ and ‘Piku’. He is now gearing up to explore a new venture, a mythological comedy starring Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao, marking his return to a genre that balances humor and meaningful narratives.

According to Pinkvilla, director Shoojit Sircar is returning to comedy after a few years, and this time with a new sub-genre. The filmmaker is attempting to explore a fresh facet of humor in cinema, one that is rarely explored in Indian films. The film will begin shooting in 2026 and will be one of the most unconventional projects made in Indian cinema.

Reportedly, Shoojit plans to reimagine a pivotal Mahabharata episode through humor, offering an innovative angle on the timeless saga. This groundbreaking mythological comedy-drama will star Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao as the protagonists. It promises sharp wit, quirky humor, and a seamless fusion of contemporary flair with traditional storytelling rooted in the epic.

Shoojit last adirected latest ‘I Want to Talk’, starring Abhishek Bachchan. The story draws from the real experiences of Arjun Sen, a cancer survivor undergoing transformative surgery while mending a long-strained bond with his daughter that began in her early years. Key supporting roles feature Ahilya Bamroo, Johny Lever, Pearl Dey, Jayant Kripalani, Kristin Goddard, and others.

Recent roles of lead actors

Manoj Bajpayee recently returned as Srikant Tiwari in ‘The Family Man Season 3’, helmed by Raj and DK. The series delves into fresh dangers confronting the beloved spy, endangering his family life as well.
