Shashank Khaitan feels Varun Dhawan is yet to demonstrate his 'full range' as an actor: 'Very underrated'

Director Shashank Khaitan, who recently helmed Varun Dhawan’s latest release Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, opened up about his bond with the actor. The filmmaker praised Dhawan, calling him underrated and insisting that he has yet to showcase his full potential.

Shashank Khaitan says Varun Dhawan is an underrated actor

In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Khaitan shared an anecdote, saying, “Varun Dhawan is a very underrated actor. I think Varun is still not showing us his full range.”The director went on to laud the actor, explaining that despite his evolution, Dhawan has not yet delivered his best performance. “I’ve seen what I love about him: he’s evolved, but I still love his hunger,” Khaitan said, adding that he often reminds Varun of the immense potential he sees in him.Khaitan further revealed that both he and Varun constantly push themselves to aim higher. “He wants to give that one performance. And I think it’s in the world. It’s going to happen, and it might happen sooner rather than later,” he added.

Shashank Khaitan on Varun Dhawan’s humility

The filmmaker also praised Dhawan’s humility despite his stardom. Sharing his experience on set, Khaitan said that Varun could have easily behaved like a star, given his track record, but instead chose to make everyone comfortable. “The way he welcomed everybody in just led the way for everyone to become comfortable. I think by the end, Varun was behaving more like a newcomer than anyone else,” he said.

Directed by Shashank Khaitan, the film stars Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Rohit Saraf, and Sanya Malhotra in lead roles, with Akshay Oberoi and Maniesh Paul in pivotal parts. The film released in theatres today, October 2, 2025.
