Sharmila Tagore would put makeup before Mansoor Ali Khan woke up

Sharmila Tagore would put on makeup before Mansoor Ali Khan woke up and then go back to sleep, reveals Soha Ali Khan: 'When she got married…'

Sharmila Tagore was just 24 when she stepped into one of India’s most talked-about royal weddings, marrying cricket captain and Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. Their love story, already the talk of the town, turned into a fairy-tale union on 27 December 1968, blending the glamour of cinema with the charm of royalty. The couple stayed together for 43 years, building a life full of love, warmth and quiet elegance until Mansoor’s passing in 2011.Despite coming from very different worlds, Sharmila from the world of films and Mansoor from a royal cricketing lineage, they created a harmonious life together. Their marriage was admired for the perfect mix of glamour and tradition.

Soha Ali Khan recalls her mother’s early marriage habit

Recently, their daughter Soha Ali Khan hosted Sonakshi Sinha and Kasturi Mahanta on her podcast to discuss love, relationships and comfort in marriage. During the conversation, Soha shared a sweet anecdote about her mother, revealing a small ritual from the early days of Sharmila’s married life. She said,“My mother once told me that when she got married, she used to wake up before my father woke up to put a little bit of rouge on, and then she would go back to sleep because she was Sharmila Tagore and he should wake up to see Sharmila Tagore. It went on for a brief period of time.”

Sonakshi shares views on modern attraction today

While Soha feels comfortable around her husband Kunal Kemmu without makeup, the podcast conversation also touched on whether modern couples put effort into appearance to maintain attraction. When asked if she follows similar habits, Sonakshi Sinha replied, “I actually don’t think about it. With us, it’s actually beyond looks. I am attracted to him for so many other things, like the way he is and makes me feel. These things won’t go away unless he plans to be not nice to me. He’s always made me feel confident no matter what size I am or how I am looking.”

More about Sharmila and Mansoor’s family life

Sharmila and Mansoor were blessed with three children, Saba Ali Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan. While Saif and Soha chose acting careers like their mother, Saba preferred a quieter, private life away from the spotlight. On the work front, after a long hiatus from Bengali cinema, Sharmila returned with the film ‘Puratawn’, directed by Suman Ghosh. This marked her first Bengali film in 14 years. Go to Source
