Shadaab recalls Salim Khan quietly paying for Amjad Khan’s last rites

Amjad Khan's son Shadaab Khan recalls Salim Khan quietly paying for his father's last rites: ‘Pathanon ki fitrat hoti hai...’

Actor-writer Shadaab Khan recently opened up about the emotional phase following the death of his father, legendary actor Amjad Khan, and revealed how screenwriter Salim Khan silently supported the family during the difficult time.Amjad Khan, best remembered for his iconic portrayal of Gabbar Singh in Sholay, died on July 27, 1992, at the age of 51 in Mumbai after suffering a heart attack. The actor had battled several health complications over the years following a severe road accident in 1976, which led to major injuries, weight gain and long-term medical issues.Speaking to Vickey Lalwani, Shadaab recalled the chaos at home after Amjad Khan’s passing in 1992 and shared that Salim Khan quietly handled expenses for the last rites without informing anyone.“Dad ke passing ke din ghar mein bahut chaos tha. Main sirf 18 saal ka tha. Mujhe samajh nahi aa raha tha kya ho raha hai,” Shadaab said.He added, “Maine ek cheez dekhi — jo bhi rituals ke liye samaan aa raha tha, jo bhi kharcha ho raha tha, Salim sahab chupchaap apni jeb se paise de rahe the. Kisi ko bataye bina.”

Salim Khan’s advice stayed with Shadaab

Shadaab further revealed that a few months after his father’s death, Salim Khan had called him to Galaxy Apartments for a personal meeting that left a deep impact on him. “Kuch mahine baad unhone mujhe Galaxy bulaya. Main gaya toh balcony mein baithe the. Kaafi der silence raha. Phir unhone mujhe bola, ‘Pathanon ki fitrat hoti hai ki woh aapas mein ladte rehte hain. Lekin jab tragedy aati hai ya koi bahar se attack karta hai, toh woh ek ho jaate hain,’” he shared. Calling it a “huge gesture”, Shadaab said he would always hold Salim Khan in high regard for standing by him during such a vulnerable period.
