Salman in talks with Akhtar for two-part period action drama

After Raj & DK's film, Salman Khan in talks with Farhan Akhtar for two-part period action drama, shooting to commence from Summer 2027

Salman Khan is reportedly in talks with Farhan Akhtar for a massive period drama based on a celebrated Indian historical figure, to be produced by Excel Entertainment. The two have been meeting regularly to discuss the project. The film is expected to go on floors in the summer of 2027.

Salman Khan has been keeping busy on the work front. While his action-comedy with ‘The Family Man’ directors Raj and DK is already in the works, the actor is now reportedly exploring an entirely different kind of project. According to reports, Khan is in talks with Farhan Akhtar to headline a large-scale period drama that revolves around one of the most legendary and celebrated characters from Indian history.

Salman Khan and Farhan Akhtar have been meeting regularly to discuss the project

According to Pinkvilla, Salman and Farhan have been meeting regularly over the last month and discussing a potential collaboration. Khan has loved what he has heard so far and has shown keen interest in the project. The talks are still at an early stage and have not yet reached the paperwork phase, but both sides are excited about the possibility of coming together for the first time. It is a massive period action drama mounted on a grand scale. The idea is to tell the story across 2 films.

More details about Salman Khan and Farhan Akhtar’s period drama expected by end of the year

While things are still in the early stages, more details about the project are expected to emerge by the end of the year. If all goes according to plan, the yet-to-be-titled period drama could very well be the film Salman takes on after wrapping up his superhero comedy with Raj and DK. The identity of the director behind the project is being kept a secret for now. However, reports clarify that Farhan’s involvement in the film is limited to his role as a producer, and he will not be stepping behind the camera to direct it.

Currently, Salman is occupied with the shoot of director Vamshi Paidipally’s action entertainer and is likely to turn his attention to the Raj and DK project around October 2026. Meanwhile, the period drama, which will be backed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, is expected to go on floors sometime in the summer of 2027.
