Roshan Meka’s ‘Champion’ OTT release details

'Champion' OTT release: When and where to watch Roshan Meka starrer period drama online

Roshan Meka’s latest film, ‘Champion’, is making a swift transition to digital platforms, arriving on Netflix on January 29th, just five weeks after its theatrical release. This early OTT debut suggests the makers are aiming to broaden viewership and mitigate losses following a lukewarm box office performance.

Roshan Meka, son of actor Srikanth, was recently seen in the Telugu movie ‘Champion’, which received positive to negative reviews upon its release. A month from its release, which was on December 25th, the movie is now set to hit the digital screens.

OTT released details for ‘Champion’

The makers have now officially announced the OTT release of ‘Champion’. The film will start streaming on Netflix on January 29. The update was seen on Netflix’s official catalogue. The OTT window is just around five weeks, which is very short. This early release clearly shows that the makers decided to move fast after the film did not perform well in theatres. Many feel this digital release was planned to reduce losses and reach more viewers quickly. The post read, “Football ground ki champion kaani rangam lo… sainikudu”. The movie will be available to stream in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.

About ‘Champion’

‘Champion’ was directed by Pradeep Advaitam. It is a period sports drama. It tells the story of the character Michael B Williams, who is seen as a talented footballer and wants to play for Manchester in England. However, coming from Secundrabad, the journey is not an easy one. He finds himself entangled in arms smuggling and ends up in Bhairanpally village, resisting Razakar atrocities. There he falls in for Chandrakala, played by Anaswara Rajan. It also includes Avantika Vandanapu and Edward Sonnenblick in key roles.

Roshan Meka’s return to big screen

For the unversed, Roshan Meka returned to theatres with his second Telugu film ‘Champion’. His first film, ‘Pelli SandaD’ gave him a fair start and also introduced Sreeleela as a fresh face. After a long gap of four years, expectations were much higher for ‘Champion’. After its release, the film failed to pull strong crowds. Mixed reviews and weak word of mouth hurt its box office run.
