Raveena Tandon on her broken engagement with Akshay Kumar

Raveena Tandon on her broken engagement with Akshay Kumar: ‘Girls change boyfriends every week, people get divorced, what’s the big deal?’

Even decades after parting ways, Raveena Tandon’s name often continues to appear alongside Akshay Kumar’s in headlines — something the actress admits still surprises her. During a 2023 interview, the Mohra star addressed how her past relationship with Akshay continues to resurface despite the years that have passed and revealed how she chooses to deal with it today.

“One broken engagement is still stuck to my name”

Speaking candidly, Raveena shared that even now, more than 25 years after their breakup, her name is frequently linked with Akshay Kumar’s. When Raveena was told that even today, if you Google ‘Raveena Tandon,’ Akshay Kumar’s name comes up, she told ANI with disbelief, “We broke up 25–30 years ago, and it still pops up.”She went on to add, “Once I had moved out of his life, I was already dating someone else, and he had moved on and was dating someone else. So where will jealousy even come from? I don’t understand why people can’t move on when we already have. One broken engagement is still stuck to my head — I don’t know why.”

“Girls have moved on; people get divorced and start new lives”

Raveena reflected on how times have changed and how public perception often lags behind reality. “Girls have been changing boyfriends every week in college since then and even now. But one broken engagement from the 90s is still attached to my name,” she said. “Everyone moves on. People get divorced, people start new lives. So what’s the big deal?”Despite the constant online reminders of her past, Raveena maintains a calm, mature outlook. She even shared that she and Akshay share cordial equations when they meet socially. “We were a hit pair during Mohra, and even now, when we bump into each other, we meet, we chat. Everyone has moved on.”

“I stopped reading gossip a long time ago”

The actress also revealed how she learned to tune out the noise over the years. “I would never read anything that was written about that. Why unnecessarily increase your blood pressure? Gossip magazines of the 90s were the worst,” she said.Calling out the hypocrisy of that era, Raveena added, “Some of the same women who used to body-shame or slut-shame actresses back then now roam around carrying the ‘feminist’ badge. Instead of supporting women, they would tear them down. It was a cruel time.”

“Social media changed everything — now you can tell your truth”

Raveena believes social media has given actors a voice that was missing in the 90s. “Back then, what the newspapers or magazines wrote was the last word. You didn’t have a voice. Today, at least you can post your truth instantly, show proof, and clarify things. That’s very important.” Go to Source
