British rapper and ‘Supracell’ actor Ghetts has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a fatal hit‑and‑run that killed a 20‑year‑old student in London last year. The musician, whose real name is Justin Clarke‑Samuel, admitted to causing death by dangerous driving and to an additional count of dangerous driving during a hearing at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

The fatal incident

According to a BBC report, Ghetts pleaded guilty to the crime against the victim, and the crash occurred on October 18, 2025, in Ilford, East London, when Clarke‑Samuel struck Nepalese student Yubin Tamang as he was crossing the road. Prosecutors told the court that he was driving at about 60–67 mph in a 30‑mph residential zone, having drunk alcohol before getting behind the wheel; his blood‑alcohol level was recorded at roughly 1.5 times the legal limit. CCTV footage showed him running multiple red lights, veering onto the wrong side of the road and mounting the curb in the minutes before the collision.

Judge’s statement in the matter

Judge Mark Lucraft KC, according to The Guardian, described the video evidence as showing a “quite appalling litany of incidents” and called the behaviour “simply shocking.” Ghetts failed to stop at the scene or call emergency services and instead drove approximately eight miles back to his home, where he was arrested hours later, the court heard. Tamang died in the hospital two days after the impact.

Testimony by Yubin Tamang’s mother and roommate

The mother of 20-year-old Yubin Tamang, Sharmila Tamang, said: “My son had come for studies to this place, but because of somebody’s mistakes, he has died at a very small age.” In a statement given to the court by his roommate, Sushant Khadka, he said: “Yubin was only 20 years old. He had dreams, ambition, plans for his future.” This shows a bright and promising young student, who lost his life and glory years, too soon.

Sentence and impact on career

The judge sentenced Clarke‑Samuel to 12 years in prison and disqualified him from driving for 17 years after his release. While acknowledging the rapper’s “genuine remorse” and letters of support from his partner and others praising his community work through music, the court emphasized the gravity of the offence. In intimation, Ben Aina KC read excerpts from a letter in which Clarke-Samuel apologized to Mr. Tamang’s family. In the letter, the rapper wrote: “I write from a place of extreme regret, shame and remorse. I fully understand that no amount of apologies can ease the pain that Mr. Tamang’s family and friends must be feeling.” The court statement read so, as reported by the GuardianAs a result of the conviction, Ghetts will not reprise his role in the upcoming second season of Netflix’s ‘Supracell’, show‑business outlets have reported; producers have not yet publicly elaborated on how his character will be written out.Disclaimer: The information in this report is based on a legal hearing as reported by a third-party source.
