Ranbir Kapoor to turn director soon; has started a writer’s room: 'I am dying to direct a movie'

Ranbir Kapoor, who started his Bollywood career with ‘Saawariya’ in 2007, is one of the most popular actors in the industry. Over the years, he has acted in many different films like ‘Rockstar’, ‘Barfi!’, ‘Sanju’ and ‘Brahmastra’, winning hearts with his acting and charm. On September 28, 2025, he celebrated his 43rd birthday and also told his fans that he wants to try his next role as a director.

Ranbir Kapoor expresses interest in directing films

During his Instagram Live session on his ARKS account, one fan asked Ranbir for an update on ‘director RK.’ He replied, “I am dying to direct a movie. I have actually started a writer’s room recently, and I am trying to inspire myself with the 2 ideas I have been starting to work on but it’s definitely on my to-do list in the next couple of years.”

This shows that Kapoor is seriously considering moving behind the camera and is already planning his first steps as a director.

Ranbir Kapoor shares a longstanding directing ambition

This isn’t the first time the ‘Wake Up Sid’ actor has shared his wish to direct. In a 2022 chat with FilmiBeat, he said, “I have always wanted to direct a film. In this lockdown, I have also written a story, which I have liked very much. But I don’t have that skill to write.. so that I can go and share that story with people and make a film with them. But yes, direction is more on my wish list than production. Well, my wife is a producer.. and is a very good producer, so maybe she can produce my film.”

Ranbir Kapoor on the acting front

Ranbir Kapoor currently has two major films lined up, the first is Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’, which is a two-part adaptation of the Hindu epic. The first part is set to release during Diwali 2026. Ranbir will play Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi stars as Sita, and Yash will play Ravana. The film also features other notable actors, creating a grand ensemble cast.The second film is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Love & War,’ which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal. Set against a backdrop of war, the film revolves around a love triangle. It is expected to be released in 2026. Go to Source
