Rajkummar Rao reacts to tragic dowry death in Raipur: ‘It’s high time we end this monstrous practice’

TRIGGER WARNING: This article contains references to suicide.Rajkummar Rao has reacted with deep sadness and anger to the shocking passing of a 23-year-old woman from Chhattisgarh, who took her own life just ten months after her wedding. The woman, identified as Manisha Goswami from Raipur, reportedly recorded a heartbreaking video before taking the extreme step, alleging harassment by her husband, Ashutosh Goswami, his brother, and her in-laws.

The ‘Stree’ actor took to his Instagram story on Tuesday, October 28 to react to the viral video that has left the nation shaken. Sharing the clip, Rao wrote, “Such heartbreaking news. It’s high time we end this monstrous dowry practice in our country. Inspire each other to not get consumed by this practice. Say No to Dowry.”

Raipur woman’s final video goes viral

In her final video, the woman opened up about the pain she faced after marriage. “I’m the eldest among my siblings, and my father is the sole breadwinner. I’m exhausted by the constant torment from my in-laws,” she said.The young woman revealed she had faced physical and emotional abuse. “I have no option left,” she said, adding that she was “tired of life”. She also claimed that her husband had assaulted her twice “without any reason” and that her mother-in-law supported him. She even mentioned facing dowry harassment, saying she hadn’t experienced even ten days of happiness during her 10-month-long marriage.
