Born on March 22, 1931, in Montreal, Canada, William Shatner displayed an early interest in acting. At the age of 8, he was enrolled in an acting school for children. Furthermore, he performed in radio productions for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and the Montreal Children’s Theatre. Despite his interest in performing arts, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from McGill University, per Britannica.Donning the role of Assistant Manager at Mountain Playhouse in Montreal, Shatner debuted onstage in a production of Tom Sawyer in 1952. Two years later, he was recruited at the then-newly formed Stratford Shakespeare Festival. After working in substantial parts, his major role came in 1958 in an adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s ‘The Brothers Karamazov.’ He took a turn to Broadway for two years in ‘The World of Suzie Wong,’ and later starred in ‘Judgment at Nuremberg.’However, one role that made him a household name was that of Capt. James T. Kirk in the ‘Star Trek’ saga. After starring in the franchise, he featured in ‘Miss Congeniality,’ ‘Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story,’ and ‘Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous.’
